Grant Peters seems to have coined the term Q-factor.
The Q factor. Measured from the center of the seat tube to the outside pedal mounting surface on the crank. This determines how far apart the riders feet are. This distance can vary drastically as the measurements from four of my bikes demonstrates:
This measurment varies by more than one inch between my widest and narrowest bikes!
